Biography
Gulumbu Yunupingu was born in Gunyangara, an island on the east side of Gove Peninsula, in northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia, in about , one of the Gumatj Clan of the Yolngu people.
Her father was Mungurrawuy Yunupingu and mother Makurrngu, and the eldest sister of Galarrwuy Yunupingu and Tom Djambayang Bakamana Yunupingu.
